Coach Ian – Week In Review: 04/03/2022

Coach Ian – Week in Review 04/03/2022

What I’m (Re)-Trying: Factor75 ($120 Off!)

Confession: I’ve fallen off this year. I run, but with nothing set on the calendar, my training hasn’t been my top priority these days. I’m in the middle of moving (staying in San Jose) and other life changes that have held my fitness back.

My natural reaction is to go back to what’s familiar. So I’m taking back many of the routines I had in 2018 (minus the excessive hours and late night gym sessions). A big part of my progress then was switching to a keto diet and finding a great meal prep plan. After researching and trying a number of meal prep companies, I eventually landed on Factor75. When I look for a meal prep company, I always ask the following questions:

  • What kind of oil(s) are your meals cooked in?
    • If it’s cooked in vegetable oil, it’s a no for me!
  • Where is your meat sourced from? Is it pasture-raised/grass-fed/grass finished?
    • Factor-75 goes with pasture-raised grass-finished meat!
  • Are the vegetables organic (or non-GMO)?
    • At Factor, we never use processed or hydrogenated fats and never use oils from inflammatory sources like corn or safflower.
  • Are any artificial sweeteners used? Any added sugar?
    • Monk fruit sweetener preferred. But occasional natural sugar is okay – just like to see how they respond! Factor75 uses no refined sugar.

Reading through their FAQ, there is a ton of thought put into the ingredients that they use. I’m back to using Factor Meal and Ample Meal for my primary sources of calories throughout the day, in conjunction with intermittent fasting 4x per week!

The New York Marathon:

I’m excited to have been selected to run the 2022 New York Marathon. The New York Marathon is one of the 6 World Major Marathons (along with Boston, Chicago, London, Tokyo, and Berlin). I’ve run the Chicago Marathon, and would like to cross off all 6 in my lifetime. I’ve been applying for the New York Marathon for a few years now, and finally got in – there’s only an 18% chance of being selected via lottery!
