Share of the Week #2:

Businesses have the right to refuse service. This is different from government requiring everyone get vaccinated or a workplace requiring it for employment.

Props to Gleason’s for taking their stance. There will always be another gym that doesn’t require vaccines for others to go to. Boxing is an innately difficult sport to enforce safety protocols – nobody wears masks while sparring and there’s blood and sweat flying everywhere. Gleason’s is doing something unforced by government and that goes completely against their financial interests so I commend them for taking that position.

Boxing Highlights:

Josh Taylor vs Jose Ramirez:

Protect yourself at all times. Jose Ramirez made the mistake out of a clinch by not defending himself while Josh Taylor quickly freed his left hand out of the clinch and threw an uppercut that knocked Jose Ramirez down. I don’t think Ramirez fully recovered from that punch and Josh Taylor won a unanimous decision.

Jose Ramirez had his best success of the fight in rounds 3 and 4 working heavily to Josh Taylor’s body. Even in the early rounds, Ramirez did well moved to his left and throwing that left hook to the body to stop Josh Taylor in his tracks. But when he went upstairs Josh Taylor used his foot movement to move in and out and counter and mistakes Ramirez made. In the latter half of the fight, Ramirez missed a lot of shots up to the head. His trainer Robert Garcia asked for him to throw more to the body, which he did – but not to the extent he was early in the fight. I think that was his biggest undoing.

Lee Wylie – A Boxing Second?

My final note from the fight – I noticed that Lee Wylie was a second in the corner for Josh Taylor. Maybe I’m late to this, but I had never seen him cornering a fighter. I know him as a boxing writer and analyst who puts out great video breakdowns on YouTube. If you haven’t seen him before, check out his YouTube page.
