Coach Ian – Week in Review 01/09/2022

Book I’m Reading

Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman

“The harder you struggle to fit everything in, the more of your time you’ll find yourself spending on the least meaningful things. … The reason for this effect is straightforward: the more firmly you believe it ought to be possible to find time for everything, the less pressure you’ll feel to ask whether any given activity is the best use for a portion of your time. Whenever you encounter some potential new item for your to-do list or your social calendar, you’ll be strongly biased in favor of accepting it, because you’ll assume you needn’t sacrifice any other tasks or opportunities in order to make space for it … If you never stop to ask yourself if the sacrifice is worth it, your days will automatically begin to fill not just with more things, but with more trivial or tedious things, because they’ve never had to clear the hurdle of being judged more important than something else.”

It’s Official: Mark Salgado will be fighting on 1/21/22 at the DoubleTree Hotel

This Week at Dreamland Boxing:

Coach Ian’s Classes:

As you may know, I am currently donating my time to host virtual online boxing classes for the members of our 501c(3) non-profit boxing gym, Dreamland Boxing. As an active member of Dreamland, you will receive the materials and video recaps of each lesson through my website under the “Premium Drills” section.

Dreamland has also increased its outdoor capacity to 16 students per class, and lifted limits on how many classes you can sign up for in a week. Join me for a class on Fridays at 4:30PM!

Our practices this week featured the following:

  • Why jump roping is important
  • Routes to the body
  • Throwing at the same time as your opponent
  • Footwork
  • Bodyweight circuits
  • And more!

You can view our full practices here.

You must be a registered member to sign up for a class, you cannot just drop-in! If you are a current member, you will receive a sign-up link to reserve your time slot every Saturday. Reserve right away because slots fill up quick (by Monday)!!

If no slots are available, sign up for the waitlist and you will be notified if any slots open up.
