Balancing a Career and Fitness: Training in Under 20 Hours a Week (Part II)

This is a follow-up to something I posted in 2016, when I thought I could tough out sleep deprivation to balance a finance career and my personal fitness goals. As I’ve gone through my journey, I’ve learned how unsustainable and, frankly, poor for long-term health and longevity that approach is. I approach my fitness in an entirely different way now, and had to figure out how to best maximize the 168 hours I have every week.

This Week at Dreamland Boxing:

The big news is that Dreamland Boxing will re-open on January 11th, 2021 for outdoor classes. Keep an eye on your email for a registration link. Classes will be capped and there will be no waitlist for classes.

Also, I have continued to host our virtual boxing sessions. Thank you to our members for keeping your memberships active and continuing to support our gym during this time. And I’m personally glad to have been able to aid in your boxing development all year!

Our practices this week featured the following:

  • A breakdown of Ryan Garcia’s left hook and how he disguised his punch to the body
  • A discussion of Ryan Garcia and Canelo Alvarez’s ankle twist (or lack thereof) when throwing the left hook
  • A focus on range and various counter-punches from different ranges
  • Footwork and pivoting
  • Body weight circuits
  • Kettlebell Single-Arm Swings and Turkish Get-Ups
  • And more!

You can find a full list of drills if you are a current Dreamland Boxing member in the Premium Drills section of my website.
