Coach Ian – Week in Review 01/24/2021:
What I’m Reading:
A Promised Land – Barack Obama
Blog I’m Reading:
Lillian Li – Chinese Characteristics. This is outside of my normal boxing, running, nutrition, and health content but I’ve lately gone down a few rabbit holes reading Lillian Li’s twitter and articles covering Chinese tech companies (BABA, BILI, the state of Chinese Cloud, Pop Mart, etc.) I guess I’m not the only one, she’s gone from 2,500 follower to 10,000+ followers since the New Year.
Documentary Recommendation: Sacred Cow
Would highly recommend this documentary if you’re interested in regenerative agriculture and saving our planet! The answers aren’t as simplistic as just cut-out-meat, especially if the alternative is putting out a ton of processed foods, while not addressing our soil.
If you’re short on time or want a sneak peak of the documentary, check out the documentary’s feature on Alejandro Carillo (Rancho Las Damas) restoring the soil in the Chihuahuan Desert.
Run Streak and Running Goals:
Since the start of the year, I’ve started off a Run Streak. I’ve run 5K/day every day, except for Saturday’s which are for my long distance runs. While a lot is up in the air, my current timeline is as follows:
- 25 miles/week
- Kaiser Permanente Virtual Challenge
- 10K (slow): 1/23/2021
- 5K (fast): 1/30/2021
- Half-Marathon (fast): 2/6/2021
- Overall mileage: 100 Miles in January
- Targeting a full-marathon in the second half of the year
- 1,000 miles
I ran my 10K today (Saturday) with a 50:45 time. Although this wasn’t supposed to be a “hard” race, I’m a bit disappointed with my level of exertion to keep that pace. As a result, I’ve braced myself for a slower 5K and half-marathon time. It will take time to build up.
That being said, as of Saturday (1/23/2021), I’m at 88 miles running for the month so should be on track for 100 miles. I’ve hit 25 miles every week this year and have run every day this year. Results take time – but I’m happy with my current level of consistency!
